I partnered with Academy Sports + Outdoors to share this with you. All opinions are my own.
When most people think back to school, the first thing that comes to mind is supplies. Kids need pencils, notebooks and crayons each fall. But, if your student is in sports, you know that is just the beginning.
I’ve got three kids – two of which play softball. And, all three of them have PE several times a week. This means our back to school list has includes a few other items — such as athletic apparel, shoes and backpacks. When you add in the cost of jeans, shoes, dresses, and supplies WITH shoes, backpacks and athletic apparel – it can be extremely expensive.
Being a true deal hunter, I always do back to school on a budget. It’s a must. That means I don’t visit only one or two stores to get everything. I shop where I know I can get the most for my money. That meant for the backpacks, shoes and clothes they needed.
QUALITY OVER PRICE
When it comes to shoes, I believe you get what you pay for. Buy cheap tennis shoes and you’ll be back in the store buying them again before they are worn out.
If you spend $25 on a pair of shoes up front and then have to spend $25 later to replace them, that’s $50 on shoes. However, if you spend $40 on shoes, you’ll be $10 ahead.
The same is true with backpacks. We’ve purchased inexpensive ones for years. You know, the ones with the characters or fun designs your kids want. Yep. Those. The thing is, they don’t last.
We have had to replace them half way through the school year due to broken straps or holes. And, of course, when they need a new one, they aren’t on sale. I have to pay *GULP* full price. By investing in a quality backpack, that can be used for more than one year, you’ll end up saving money.
This year, I decided to get both quality shoes and backpacks, but didn’t want to pay too much. We went to to see how far we could stretch our budget.
I was able to get 3 pair of shoes, 3 backpacks, numerous tees, shorts and some hoodies. We picked up all of these items — and still stayed under budget!
When my son found his shoes, I did a quick online check to compare prices. After all, Academy Sports + Outdoors offers a . But, sure enough, as soon as I found them at another store, they were the same price — only because they were on sale! I found this to be true on several items we needed.
The sale prices at the other stores were the every day prices at Academy Sports + Outdoors. I didn’t need a coupon. In fact, most of the items we bought were name brands which meant I couldn’t even use coupons (as most of those are coupon exclusions).
I didn’t have to wait for the sale price to happen on a weekend to shop. I was able to go – on a Monday. The day when most sales end. And, everything we needed at a prices we could afford.
Soon, I’ll get the list for the sporting items we will need for this year’s softball season. Guess where I’ll be headed? You guessed it! .
