My husband I use Quicken for our accounting. We’ve been using it for more than 10 years because it just worked. Not only that, we knew how to use it. However, as our world is moving on-line more and more, we found ourselves wishing that we could access our account information anywhere.
Unfortunately, that is not an option with Quicken. That is why I am glad I found .
If you use Quicken, you know that your information is available on your computer. However, what happens when you are away from your computer or if you or your partner needs to check account details. Well, simply put – you just can’t. Not without getting up and physically checking the computer with the software on it.
Because of this inconvenient feature, we were interested in finding other alternatives (, the fact that it is uncertain what support Quicken will have in the future, since the product is being sold off). So, when I first learned of CountAbout, I was definitely intrigued.
After I read the FAQs and pricing, I thought I’d give it a try. I was able to do so for a couple of weeks FREE of charge – and I did not even have to enter a credit card!!! As someone who likes to try things out before I spend the money, I was grateful that I didn’t have to worry that they’d just up and charge me without me knowing about it. That set very well for me.
Once my account was created, I logged into our Quicken Account. I followed their instructions (which were very straight forward) and exported all of our accounts (11 in all). I clicked over to my account and clicked on the Quicken Import button and it went to work for me. Before I knew it, ALL of our transactions were right there for us to see! SWEET!!
We then linked to our bank account. That allowed for any new transactions to be shown to us. This helped immensely in being able to post those debit transactions and not have to manually enter them (we had problem with this feature working on Quicken and so could never use it).
One tip I do have when it comes to the transactions though is that it will show your pending transactions along with those which have already posted to your account. You can’t click to add them until they post (which was confusing to us at first).
The other thing we noticed was that had smart technology to try to assign categories to each transaction. We just edited those we needed to (and then, going forward, it was simpler for it to know what to assign to which category).
Even better, you can download the app to your phone or table to have access to your account information at your fingertips. Sure, you can always access your bank account, but I never trust that balance – but rather – my own. The reason is that I might have checks that have not yet cleared by bank account, but they are recorded on my check register.
You can sync this with any and all of your financial institutions from your bank to your credit card and even your investments! It is truly a way to have full access to all of your accounts in one place (which you can access anywhere, at any time).
After having used the software for some time, it has proven to both my husband and me that it works. It is exactly what we were looking for and now, we can just use this and not have to worry about all the extra bells and whistles on Quicken (that we never use – but of course are paying for).
Give CountAbout a try for . You can then continue with the basic platform for $9.99 or premium for $29.99 per year. Yes – these amounts are ANNUAL fees (which makes the software very affordable).
You will want to compare the plans to make sure you get the right one for you. The difference is that the basic plan does not allow for the automatic download of your bank, credit card and other statements, where as the premium plan does. (I honestly feel that the $29.99 fee is well worth the cost of having instant access to those accounts).
