My kids love to play outside. If the sun is shining they ask to head outdoors. While my younger kids find it easy to find something to do (chalk, trucks, small ride ons), my older daughter feels like she does not have a “toy” with which to play. When Radio Flyer shared their new Shockwave Scooter with me, I was anxious to have her try it out. My hope was that she’d finally have something to do outside too!
The first thing that I noticed was the side of the deck. It was much wider, which allowed my daughter greater control. We’ve had other scooters which have been too small for her to use properly. She was excited to try it out because she felt like she wasn’t going to fall off it is so easily.
One feature that mom loved was the adjustable handle bar. With 3 kids of varying heights, it is so nice that this one ride on can easy adjust so they can all enjoy it. While it can be adjusted, my eight year old claimed that it was to be at “her height” all of the time (the jury is still out on whether that will fly or not).
When she took of riding it, it rode so smoothly, even over the bumps. This new scooter has a built-in suspension which really minimizes those bumps….or what we call “things that makes me fall down and get hurt” (in kid language). It rode so smoothly over every little sidewalk dip and bump.
I’ve always been nervous about my children riding scooters, because how do they stop if they get going too quickly? This one has a built in foot break on the back of the deck. If your child gets going too fast, they simply have to step back a bit off of the deck and step on the lever to slow down or to stop. Add in the helmet and safety gear and this mom feels pretty good about her daughter playing with this scooter.
Rdio Flyer has this new . They also offer a pink so your girl can rock out to her favorite MP3 tunes while rolling along, which also sells for $59.99. Either one could make for a great gift for your child this holiday season!
